Darjeeling originates from two Tibetan words: “Dorje” and “ling”. Dorje signifies thunderbolt which according to Hindu mythology is the staff of God Indra. The word “ling” means an area or spot. So, the name Darjeeling signifies the ‘place where there is thunderbolt’. Surrounded by the snow-capped ridges of the Himalayas and gorgeously blanketed by beautiful rural tea plantations, old-world temples(Peace Pagoda) and monasteries. Darjeeling is also called the Queen of Hills. Go to Drajeeling and you can feel why people call that place as ” The Queen of Hills”.

The two best seasons to visit Darjeeling, one between March to May and the other between October to November . These are the times when the temperature is pleasantly cool and the sky is usually clear offering lovely views of Kanchenjunga snow peaks. In winters the place becomes free of rains and showers. Varieties of cultures, traditions, custom etc. makes Darjeeling quite diverse and unique. Sit on Darjeeling Chowrasta and enjoy the beautiful evening and the cool breeze brushing your hair.
