THE FINAL GUIDE: HOW TO CHOOSE THE BEST PORTABLE LAPTOP

The Ultimate Guide: This You Must Know Before Choosing a Laptop

The new installment of our guide, this time we are going to give you tips to choose the laptop, a difficult decision that can cost us many hours researching and comparing devices.

To know how to choose a laptop we need to know what use we will give it

It is very important before investing in a computer or laptop to know well what use we are going to give it.

We have different models, prices, and brands depending on how we will use our laptop.

Here is a Very Practical Example:

  • Home or student computers (use of Office, Internet, multimedia).
  • For work or for office (Office use mainly Excel, Word, Access).
  • Graphic design work notebooks (Adobe suite and sometimes Corel).
  • Audiovisual design work laptops (Adobe suite, 3DSMax, etc.)
  • Gaming laptops.
  • Professional notebooks.

The Ultimate Guide: This You Must Know Before Choosing a Laptop

  • For the home, we have many options, but the important thing is to take into account the following:
  • The seller of the store can offer you an X equipment because it has greater value, this does not mean that it is the most suitable for your use.
  • Look at prices, models, brands, a recognized brand laptop is not the same as a generic one, especially with regard to the warranty.
  • Some vendors offer computers with Linux or without an operating system, this reduces the cost of Microsoft Windows licenses.
  • It is not the same new, refurbished A or B as an open box.

Having said all this, let’s see what components we should look at when purchasing a device.

Processor

It is the team’s engine, which is partly to blame for its performance.

Depending on the type of use we can find Intel or AMD processors that go from an Intel Celeron, Core or AMD Ryzen.

Keep in mind that the brand of the processor is not something to be defined, both Intel and AMD offer good performance depending on the model.

Let’s define the types of use of a computer and the most suitable processor:

  • Home or student computers: Intel Pentium or AMD A10 or higher.
  • For office work: Intel Pentium Dual-Core, AMD A10, or higher.
  • Graphic design work notebooks: Intel Core i5, AMD Ryzen 3, or higher.
  • Audiovisual design work laptop: Intel Core i7, AMD Ryzen 7, or higher.
  • Gaming laptops: Intel Core i5 or i7, AMD Ryzen 7, or Ryzen 9.
  • Professional notebooks: Best Motherboards for Ryzen 5 2600.

Memory RAM

A section of which we should pay more attention is that of RAM, very important to know how to choose a Best laptop for cybersecurity.

This memory is essential to be able to execute tasks with greater speed, although the processor + disk or SSD set also defines the final performance of the equipment.

For home or studio use with 4GB of RAM, we are fine, but this must be accompanied by an SSD or solid-state drive.

Traditional hard disks (or HDDs) are usually much slower when it comes to running applications, and you can even see their slowness when starting or turning off the computer.

A good combination is always an HDD + SSD, on the HDD we save our files and programs and on the SSD we install the operating system.

But of course, if the use is basic we can choose an SSD of about 120GB that we can find cheap in stores like Amazon.

And if you want you can always choose to store in the cloud or on an external disk.

  • Home or student computers: 4GB of RAM.
  • Office work laptop: 4GB of RAM.
  • Graphic design work notebooks: 8GB of RAM.
  • Audiovisual design work notebooks: 8 / 12GB of RAM.
  • Gaming laptops: Depends on the game but 16GB would be advisable.
  • Professional Notebooks: We are talking about powerful workstations with a minimum of 32GB of RAM.

Other Points to Consider when Purchasing a Laptop

The screen size and resolution may seem minor, but they are not. When we talk about screen size we are referring to the diagonal size of the screen of our equipment that is measured in inches.

In order not to tire your eyes so much, we can advise at least a size of 13.3 ″.

As far as resolution is concerned, an HD screen is sufficient. Although a Full HD will always provide better quality when presenting texts and multimedia content.

This is especially recommended for design, the higher the resolution, the more elements we will see on the screen and we will be able to work more comfortably.

It is clear that for games the minimum resolution must be Full HD.
